And in this household we have several.
My big boy will turn seven tomorrow and on Saturday we threw him a very small party. Usually each year I invite a bunch of kids and really theme out the event. This year I told him to just invite a few friends from school so we could do a "drop-off" party.
As I was complaining to friends about what to do during the winter my friend and fellow blogger Kim gave me a great idea: the drive-in movies! Sacramento is lucky enough to still have one of these relics around.
So the birthday theme was "Drive-In Movie" and I searched around on Pinterest for some ideas.
I downloaded these invitations from Trillustrations. They were perfect.
I got the idea to make popcorn inspired cupcakes via Under the Table and Dreaming. These were so incredibly easy to make and looked professional. Even my brother-in-law who is an event planner asked where I bought them!
I set up a snack bar so the kids could grab some treats to take to the movies. It was kind of gross actually.
We were the first ones to the drive-ins and the kids went crazy running around. It was my husband and I against a handful of kids. Yet somehow it felt like us against 300.
Here they all are piled into the back of our minivan. Anyone wanna guess how long before the first kid had to go to the bathroom or complain that someone was sitting on their foot? Yep, about three minutes.
It really was a great experience for everyone. The kids had a blast while my husband and I cracked jokes in the dark. And my battery died...of course. Luckily they are prepared for that. Only a momentary interruption.
My recommendation: smaller parties are more manageable and fun!

I have no recollection of such a suggestion. How drunk was I?
